According to owner Daniel DiNardo, “We have been as busy as ever during COVID, as this sport is one of the safest to play while practicing social distancing. We have been adhering to local guidelines — such as wearing masks and practicing social spacing inside — and we have also offered outdoor racquet drop-off/pick-up services for anyone who preferred not to come into the shop but still wanted racquet services.” It seems as if tennis, especially women’s tennis, has found its niche in the Charleston/Mount Pleasant area. One catalyst may be the hosting of the Volvo Car Open Tournament, the largest women’s-only tennis event of its kind in North America, attracting 90,000 attendees and 100 of the top ladies’ singles and doubles players. Fortunately, the tournament will be returning to Charleston this spring. According to The Atlantic, tennis is one of the most female-friendly of all the typical spectator sports. Top tournaments such as Wimbledon offer women equal screen time and lucrative payouts. Teen girls who hone their skills in tennis can aspire to college scholarships. Furthermore, this is a sport the entire family can enjoy. Public support from the local residents has probably also contributed to the increased demand for tennis courts, lessons, leagues and equipment here. In response, DiNardo suggested, “Now is the best time to start or get back to playing tennis. There are many opportunities locally to play. Whether you decide to take group clinics, lessons or join a local team, there are many ways to get back into the game.” Both novice and seasoned players visit Holy City Tennis Shop for the extensive selection of famous brand tennis racquets, including Asics, Wilson, Babolat, Head, Prince, Yonex, Volkl and K-Swiss, as well as shoes, strings, footwear, grips, apparel and other accessories. Specialty services, such as racquet stringing and customization, are appealing. Also, customers may take advantage of the “three-day racquet demo” offer, which allows them to try out a new racquet before making the final purchase. Women have come to trust the expertise of DiNardo and his staff. A seasoned player himself, this shop owner knows the game and the best equipment for individual needs. He and his staff are committed to helping all their customers – men, women, and children – find success in the game they have come to love so much.
