Our East Cooper Neighbors facetime Chris Cunniffe Job: I’m the managing broker at Engel & Völkers in Charleston. We just launched our new real estate company on July 1. Favorite summer 2020 activity: Beach walks with my wife on Sullivan’s Island and IOP. Early morning tennis matches. What did you miss about past summers: Nearly every summer of my life, I’ve spent a week vacationing with my extended family at the Jersey Shore. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our 2020 trip due to COVID-19. Highlight of your summer: We are developing a mixed-use project on Shem Drive in Mount Pleasant with office buildings and townhouses. My wife and I have enjoyed the process of selecting all the finishes for the interiors. Everything is much more expensive than they suggest on HGTV! Lisa KowalskiWhatley Job: I have worked at Bubbles Gift Shoppe since they opened. I love my job and all the ladies I work with. Favorite summer 2020 activity: During the quarantine, the weather was fortunately beautiful, and I love to work in my yard. I was able to spruce it up, redo my dish gardens, clean all my porches and clean my garage. Then the organizing started inside. What did you miss about past summers: The most disappointing part of this year to me was for my daughter who graduated fromWando. Not only did she miss all of her “school activities,” but also our big mother/daughter trip to Spain we had planned for her 18th birthday. Highlight of your summer: I have a new granddaughter, and nothing is more important than seeing her and keeping her safe and healthy, so we’ve taken extra precautions. Although we normally take a summer vacation, this year she has been our treat. Roger Gaither Job: Owner of Island Media Productions, an audio/video creative production company specializing in radio, TV, online and social media. Favorite summer 2020 activity: I love being outside, so I enjoyed going to the beach, walking, jogging and biking. What did you miss about past summers: I missed being with friends, eating out, going to the movies and taking an exotic vacation. Highlight of your summer: Getting to spend almost three weeks with my daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters. Karen-Anne Pagano Job: Owner of The Village Bookseller. Favorite summer 2020 activity: Spending lots of time outdoors with my two boys. That was definitely an unexpected benefit of the bookshop being closed because of COVID. What did you miss about past summers: Every summer, we take a month-long trip to Scotland to visit family. We were disappointed that we couldn’t go, but we’re now planning a shorter trip at the end of the year (and my boys are hoping for snow). Highlight of your summer: The highlight has been getting the bookshop up and running, and that has been keeping everyone busy. Being together and slowing down the other aspects of our lives has been positive for us as a family.
