There must be a red sky every night on Daniel Island because there’s certainly plenty of sailor delight. Now entering its ninth season of operation, the Daniel Island Ferry is riding a wave of momentum after being voted One of the Best Sunset and Cocktail Boat Tours by the readers of Mount Pleasant Magazine.
The DI Ferry launched its maiden voyage in March 2018 from its dock on River Landing Drive, offering residents and visitors a scenic and stress-free way to get between downtown and Daniel Island or experience the Charleston harbor. Co-owner Chip Deaton started the Charleston Water Taxi 20 years ago with business partner Scott Connelly. Their third partner on the ferry, Colby Hollifield, joined with Deaton and Connelly to kick off the Daniel Island service.
With coastal breezes, golden-hour skies, and a curated cocktail selection onboard, it’s no surprise voters recognized the experience as one of the area’s best. The DI Ferry provides round-trip service to Waterfront Park in downtown Charleston, as well as a 90-minute sunset harbor cruise that has quickly become a local favorite. The Water Taxi runs hourly on a continuous loop around Charleston Harbor between Patriots Point and downtown Charleston.
