We would all like to believe that as we grow older, we also grow wiser. As a young publisher, I was following my passion, as I do today. Everything having to do with publishing was exciting, creative, fast-paced and ever-changing. Itβs been my world for decades, and, when I was younger and I was eating, drinking and sleeping publishing, I thought it was all there was in life. My attitude hasnβt changed all that much, but I have learned something very important: Success is defined not only by what you do and how well you do it but also through your children and their children.
Today Iβm in Florida celebrating my sonβs graduation from Full Sail University in Orlando. All three of my boys attended Whitesides Elementary School and Moultrie Middle School. As many parents in Mount Pleasant know, these are great schools. Anthony Macchio was in the first graduating class at the new Wando High School. Graduation at any grade level has a special meaning, but there is something extraordinary about graduating from college. Anthony earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Digital Arts & Design.
Because of the quality of his work, Anthony was asked to give a speech at the graduation ceremony and a presentation the day before. He started his presentation by explaining how he developed a passion for his craft, attributing his success to his momβs obsession with interior design and his dadβs work ethic and passion for publishing. As Anthony spoke, I held back my emotions. I couldnβt help but think about one of my favorite sayings: Our kids donβt do what we say; they do what we do.
Anthonyβs presentation was outstanding. He finished by talking about one of his own passions β a Twitter account called www.Twitter.com/HotKeyoftheDay, which is a way for designers to learn about keyboard shortcuts.
Iβm sure many of our readers have experienced the celebration that surrounds a college graduation and know how emotional this kind of family gathering can be. Iβm glad yβall arenβt watching me write this; my eyes continue to well up with pride and emotion.
I have to thank Team Media Services. While I was away enjoying Anthonyβs graduation, they put the final touches on the latest Mount Pleasant Magazine and were hard at work.
