Our Mount Pleasant Neighbors f c tim TomMiller Lives in: Old Village, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. From: Jacksonville, Florida. Education/Experience: B.S. in Studio Art from Florida State University; professional animator and developer since 2004. Employment: Owner of Creative Ocean, Inc., a digital production company that specializes in building animated and interactive content for larger agencies. Interests/hobbies: Outdoor adventures with my wife and two kids, long-distance bike riding, working in the yard, creating digital experiments on codepen.io. Your “perfect” weekend: Excessive eating and drinking with friends and family and enough exercise to not feel guilty about any of it! Maybe a long night of board games, too. Your New Year’s Resolution: Do 100 push-ups per day and ride my bike at least 50 miles each week. Favorite quote or philosophy: “Everything will be OK in the end. If it’s not OK, it’s not the end.” Katie Walters Lives in: Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.  From: Charlotte, North Carolina. Education/Experience: B.A. in Economics from USC; master’s in School Counseling from USC. Employment: Founder/CEO Francis + Benedict Inc.; part-time staff leading volunteers and counseling at Seacoast Church. Interests/hobbies: I love reading or listening to audio books, walking the beach, spending time with my family … anything that doesn’t involve a video game, I’m happy! Traveling, working on mission in areas of injustice.  Your “perfect” weekend: Friday is our Sabbath, so we really disconnect and give this day to honor God and rest. We love walking the beach, working out, eating at any of Charleston’s amazing restaurants while the kids are in school. Friday night we try to have family night, and we love going to MEX 1 on Sullivan’s – or just enjoying pizza and movie. Saturday on my perfect weekend we would be on water, the beach, a kayak, paddle board, a friend’s boat. Sunday we will be in my favorite place in the world – our church, Seacoast Mount Pleasant. Your New Year’s Resolution: I am a big goals girl – I usually try to have five to 10, but, this year, I am focusing on learning French to better communicate in Togo, West Africa. Favorite quote or philosophy: “Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven – for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” – Luke 7:47 Sabrina Lavender Lives in: Isle of Palms, South Carolina. From:  Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina. Education/Experience: College of Charleston and American Musical & Dramatic Academy … so long ago that it doesn’t matter! Studied music and theater, then ended up in TV news and, later, advertising (I was the third generation in a broadcast family). In 2007, my husband, Eric, and I got fed up with corporate America, quit our jobs, and became pirates. … I’m not kidding. Employment: We have two family-owned businesses: Charleston Pirate Tours and Island Paradise Balloon Art & Magic. We offer a number of tours, including a two-hour pirate-history tour, a children’s treasure- hunt tour and an evening pirate and ghost tour. When we’re not doing tours, we’re doing balloon twisting and magic at events and parties around the area.  Interests/hobbies: Doing research for tours, learning new balloon designs and trying to teach Doozer “Ride of the Valkyries,” because a parrot singing that would be hysterical. I read a lot – at least two books a week. Any spare time is set aside for family. Your “perfect” weekend: I’m usually doing tours on the weekend, so my perfect weekend would be lots of sold-out tours! Your New Year’s Resolution: Not to make promises that I can’t keep … like a New Year’s Resolution. Favorite quote or philosophy: “Make your own luck.” Frank Carlier Lives in: Charleston, South Carolina. From: Morgantown, West Virginia.
