We truly rely on machines of all kinds to “run” the daily ins and outs of our communications and other various logistics. Whom do we turn to? Well, here in the Lowcountry, for the last 50 years, none other than Saulisbury Business Machines. Saulisbury Business Machines got its start in 1963 when Lyles and Mae Saulisbury started selling and servicing typewriters and adding machines at their shop on Reynolds Avenue in North Charleston. Their business grew, and their only son, Dale, began working at the company full-time when he graduated from Clemson in 1983. Dale’s wife, Pam, joined the Saulisbury team in 1994, automating the accounting and managing the office. Dale became president of the company in 1995, and branch offices have been opened in Myrtle Beach, Beaufort and the Barnwell- Bamberg area. Saulisbury now has 38 employees. So what exactly sets Saulisbury Business Machines apart from the competition? What has led to their success over the past half century? It’s simple: They have a dedicated team that provides each customer with the best products and finest service. Focus and enthusiasm about continuing education and training both in sales and service of their equipment lines run strong throughout the company. Take it from Dale Saulisbury, who echoed these truths: “Dedication and commitment go hand in hand; the customer always comes first. Excellence in customer service is the No. 1 priority.” He recognizes and embraces the technical changes of the industry and encourages his employees to continue to strive for excellence. In addition to their top-notch customer service, Saulisbury offers quite the extensive product range to meet any business’ needs. Canon, Kyocera and Lanier are among brands of printers, copiers and fax machines that are stocked; parts for all models in each line are carried as well. Machines range in size from small desktop to full-size models that are able to print 115 pages per minute. Saulisbury also carries shredders, folders, smartboards, projectors and high-end production equipment. And if there is ever a problem with any of the equipment, Saulisbury provides a four- hour turnaround for service calls. Saulisbury Business Machines loves serving the Lowcountry and believes that the success and growth they have enjoyed can be credited to its employee/employer relationships. Dale aims for longevity with employees and communicates each person’s role and worth. Leverne Locklear, director of personnel, is one such employee who celebrated his 40th anniversary with the company this year. A 50th-anniversary employee appreciation luncheon was held earlier this year to honor all Saulisbury staff members.
