M
ount Pleasant is a
people magnet, attracting
newcomers from across the
country and around the globe
and growing by a rate exceeded
by only eight other cities of its
approximate size in the entire
country. There’s no question that people want to put down
roots East of the Cooper, and hous-
es, apartments and condominiums
are rising out of the ground to help them reach that goal.
Now the town is making a concerted effort to extend
its innate magnetism to the business world, in part so that
residents of the town can work as well as live and play in
Mount Pleasant.
To help attain that lofty aspiration, the town hired its
first-ever business development officer in September. Amy
Livingston’s job will encompass an array of activities, from
recruiting companies to come to Mount Pleasant to serv-
ing as a liaison between the business community and the
town’s Planning Department to putting together publica-
tions aimed at explaining exactly what start-ups and exist-
ing businesses need to do to comply with Mount Pleasant’s
rules, regulations and guidelines.
Livingston pointed out that the type and amount of as-
sistance she will provide will depend on who she is helping.
