But Page’s Okra Grill Got There
You could probably stop in at
Page’s Okra Grill at opening time in the
morning, stay there most of the day and sample
a taste of why the readers of Mount Pleasant
Magazine rated the local restaurant among the best in
seven separate categories.
Page’s, a local landmark since 2006, took top honors
in the magazine’s Best of Mount
Pleasant competition for Best
Breakfast, Brunch, Dessert, Restaurant Service and Shrimp
‘n’ Grits. Run by sisters Courtney and Ashleigh Page, the
restaurant claimed second place in two other areas: Best
Fried Chicken and Best Mac ‘n’ Cheese.
The success of the Page sisters, who purchased Billy’s Back
Home Restaurant, changed the name to Page’s Okra Grill and
eventually moved down Coleman Boulevard to their current
location, is based on four factors, according to Courtney: top-
notch customer service, high-quality ingredients, good value
and “an atmosphere that feels like home.”
Hard work doesn’t hurt, of course, and none of the
restaurant’s 108 employees put more of their heart and
soul into the business than the Page sisters. Ashleigh runs
the kitchen, showing up before the sun rises on most days
to bake biscuits from scratch, while Courtney manages the
business, waits on tables, greets customers and even sweeps
the floor, if necessary.
Page’s Okra Grill’s rise to prominence in the East Cooper
restaurant scene wasn’t easy. When the Page sisters purchased
Billy’s, they served only breakfast and lunch. When dinner
hours were added, they soon outgrew their 52-seat capacity,
so they purchased the building that housed Alex’s Restaurant.
“When we bought the building, we worked all day
at Page’s, then came down the street to clean up Alex’s,”
Ashleigh commented.
It’s obvious that all their hard work paid off.
