W

hen I moved back to mount Pleasant last sPrIng after lIvIng on

James Island for seven years, I couldn’t believe how much was new to me about

the town and her surrounding islands. Yes, I had lived in Mount Pleasant before

(during graduate school; shout outs to Heidi Stepzinski and Alice Anthony), but

things were markedly different. I had no clue just how many shops, restaurants

and opportunities were waiting for me to check them out – but, as I write this, I’m working my way

through the list, little by little.

Readers, consider our 2015 Best of Mount Pleasant issue your personal “list” to all that is good

about Mount Pleasant and East Cooper. The businesses and people that placed were chosen by you and

your neighbors – so you can rest assured that they are worth the effort. Of course, there’s absolutely no

way we could include everything that makes East Cooper the best place to be – but you can start with page 113 and get inspired.

Speaking of inspired, our cover crew, photographed by the talented Jenn Cady at the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina,

is made up of the stellar individuals who help direct some of the Lowcountry’s biggest events. Left to right: Gillian Zettler of the

CharlestonWine + Food Festival; Bob Moran of the Family Circle Cup; Jimmy Huggins of the SoutheasternWildlife Exposi-

tion; and Julian Smith of the Cooper River Bridge Run. My appreciation goes out to each of you, as well as to East Cooper

Sporting Goods and Bottles Beverage Superstore for supplying our props.

I could go on about how much good stuff is in this issue besides the 2015 Best of Mount Pleasant and our cover feature on

the top Lowcountry events – from a gorgeous bridal spread, complete with tips from the experts around town to instructions on

hosting your own oyster roast – but I’ll let you read the issue for yourselves.

As always, I’m grateful to have all of you as readers and supporters. 2015 is going to be a great year.

Yours,

Denise K. James
