PLEASE VOTE ON NOV. 5th
A Briefing on the Voting Process
By Elton Carrier
Mount Pleasant Town Council
The upcoming election is very important for the residents of Mt. Pleasant. A new Mayor and up to 4 new council members will be elected. Council recently amended the Ordinance to change the method of elections from plurality to runoff. In both races it will now take a majority of the votes cast in the election to win on the first ballot or there will be a runoff. In the case for Mayor the top 2 would runoff and in the case of the Council seats not receiving a majority of votes it will be the number of seats plus one.
The election has 5 candidates running for Mayor. They are:
*Joe Buston
*C. Carl Carroll, Jr.
*George A. Freeman
*Ken Glasson
*Linda Page
The Town Council race has 8 candidates vieing for 4 seats. The candidates are:
*Ben Bryson
*Elton Carrier
*Paul Gawrych
*Timm Gipe
*Anthony Kowbeidu
*Gary Santos
*Mark Smith
*Joseph Wrenn
There is also a Mt. Pleasant Waterworks Commissioner’s election for 2 seats on that board. The majority/runoff change for the Mayor & Council races does not apply to this election. The candidates are:
*John Burn
*Alyssondra Campaign
*Rick Crosby
*Dolph Rodenberg
It has been disappointing in the past that the citizenry has not turned out for elections. With upwards of 53,000 registered voters in Mt. Pleasant it would be a shame to have only a 15%-25% turnout.
There are many issues our strong Council-weak Mayor form of government will face the next 4 years. Each of our 9 elected officials on Council represent all of you. We have no single member districts in Mt. Pleasant.
So get out and vote! Make your voice heard on November 5th as to who you want to see running the Town. It’s your most important right as a citizen.

I agree with Elton. Please vote on Nov. 5th. There are many issues that will require Council’s immediate attention and your vote will enable the most qualified candidate to be involved in solving these issues.
