Polly’s Fine Jewelry: Versatile, Classical Elegance

Versatile, Classical Elegance, Polly's Fine Jewelry

Polly’s Fine Jewelry has offered Charleston unmatched quality and value for the past 30 years.

Since opening in 1986, Polly’s has grown to three Lowcountry locations – Mount Pleasant, West Ashley and North Charleston – and become the “go-to” spot for the perfect piece for any occasion or celebration. Today, owners Polly and Richard Moore and their many long-term employees are helping second- and third generation customers while welcoming new customers into the Polly’s family every day.

A Lowcountry native, Polly began at a family-owned jewelry store in Columbia at 15, where she continued to learn the business through college at the University of South Carolina. After graduation, she and Richard decided to return to Charleston and combine her jewelry experience with his background in working with small businesses. From the beginning, Polly’s found a niche in offering affordable and carefully-chosen fine jewelry and engagement rings.

“We make sure people know what they are buying and feel really good about it,” Richard said, explaining the company’s commitment to educating customers without pressure or pretense.

Polly and Richard’s commitment to the Lowcountry runs deep.

“We love Mount Pleasant, we know the community and we’ve lived in the neighborhood for over 20 years,” Polly said. “Our children have grown up here. Our friends and family are here. We shop local and buy local.”

This connection to the community directly impacts what people find in their stores.

“We buy new pieces and introduce new designers specifically with our customers in mind,” Polly said. “We know what they love and what will be a good fit for Charleston.”

This includes the popular Gate Collections inspired by Charleston’s iconic ironwork, along with other designer collections, including Tacori, TAG Heuer, Michele, Gabriel and more. The company’s long-term relationships with designers allows them to offer many exclusive collections.

“We really look for versatile, classical elegance – for pieces that fit the lifestyle of our customers and easily transition from busy days to nights out,” Polly explained.

Led by Polly and Richard, the experienced staff takes the time to know and remember each customer, to help find pieces that are the right fit for their lifestyle.

“We’ve built up a lot of knowledge and really get to know our customers,” said Wes Tuten, special projects manager. “Customers are treated like family and friends.”

It’s these people and connections that keep the staff motivated: a first-time customer choosing the perfect engagement ring; a returning customer upgrading their Polly’s diamond through the store’s 110-percent lifetime upgrade program; or a little girl picking out her first piece of jewelry.

“We know that every piece we sell is special to someone,” said Tuten. In recent years, Polly’s has taken that connection a step further with social media.

“We’re really excited about Facebook and Instagram right now,” said Polly. “We love to share pictures from customers’ proposals and weddings, of kids shopping for mom, of our staff hanging out after hours – to show off the Polly’s family.”

As a full-service jeweler, Polly’s also offers gift registry, custom design, insurance appraisals, gold buying and in-house jewelry and watch repair. “We have great jewelers and a watch repairman on staff. This year alone we’ve done over 6,000 repairs,” said Tuten.

The Mount Pleasant store is located at 1492 Highway 17, across from the Wando Crossing Shopping Center. To learn more, visit www.pollysjewelry.com or call 843-884-2447.
