Describe the atmosphere at your business. What do you want customers to take away from your business?
Customers can expect a special shopping experience with the most up-to-date clothing and accessory trends. Customer service is a key component in our continued success for 35 years.
What or who inspires you?
Seeing my customers decked out in Copper Penny outfits looking amazing.
What did you “pretend” to be as a child?
A model. I would read my mom’s fashion magazines and try on her clothing, heels and jewelry and model in the mirror. I ended up becoming a model. Follow your dreams.
What is a piece of advice for young women in your field?
If this is your true passion, you will have a great chance of success. Work hard and smart, and most importantly, take care of your customers. I recall first starting Copper Penny and I would deliver clothes, shoes and accessories to friends and customers and do whatever it took. In 1987, Mount Pleasant had around 25,000 residents, so I had to do whatever it took to make the business work.
Where did the name Copper Penny come from?
I was in a prayer group at church, and we talked about my new venture. The next meeting a member said “the penny is copper, so how about Copper Penny?” And I was sold.
