When it comes to restaurant options in Mount Pleasant, there are a plateful of possibilities. However, if you prefer to dine al fresco, these restaurants are a must.
SOL Southwest Kitchen and Tequila Bar has you covered on their screened-in-patio for Taco Tuesdays. Pair hand-crafted margaritas with five-cheese bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers or seared tuna lollipops dipped in ginger sauce and ponzu. While you’re there, make sure to send compliments to the chef, Virginia Goodwater, also known around the restaurant as “Ms. V” and “Mama,” as she has been cooking for Sol since its inception. And ask for Meghan to look after you, too. She boasts a wealth of knowledge about the menu and has been there as long as Ms. V.
A staple on historic Shem Creek since 1947, Red’s Ice House offers a covered patio with a view overlooking boats, kayakers, manatees, dolphins and pelicans, along with majestic sunsets. While taking in the water traffic and wildlife, pair a craft beer with quintessential dishes such as smoked wings, a grouper sandwich, smoked BBQ pork nachos, seafood queso packed with crab, sautéed shrimp and peppers, or crab cake sliders. Whatever mouthwatering choice you make, you can’t go wrong, as the laid-back, dog-friendly environment perfectly parallels the Mount Pleasant vibe.
For Southern fare with French, Italian and Spanish influences, Obstinate Daughter on Sullivan’s Island is your go-to. Featuring pizza, pasta, small plates and a raw bar, with fresh ingredients harvested by local farms and fishermen, the menu changes seasonally. Dine outside in elegance beneath a canopy and enjoy a light glass of wine paired with a beet and burrata salad, grilled octopus or swordfish Siciliana. Finish with a pecan bourbon crème brûlée et voila, and you might just find yourself returning for brunch tomorrow.
