If you haven’t visited any dining establishments on Clements Ferry Road recently, then you are certainly missing out on a few hidden gems. Consider these the next time you’re planning to venture out for a fresh, hot meal.
Coastal Skillet
Located at Point Hope Commons, Coastal Skillet is a brand-new establishment serving breakfast, brunch and lunch. Charleston is known for brunching on the weekends, but Coastal Skillet has redefined that term to offer it daily. Their menu is packed with delicious and creative dishes. They say variety is the spice of life and you can visit this place every day for an entire month and still try something different. The owners use locally-sourced fresh ingredients, and it truly tastes like it. Their homemade crab dip is baked in a skillet using real crab meat. They also prepare homemade donuts glazed with fruit compote.
Additionally, they have some of the breakfast classics such as pancakes, French toast and that hearty Southern favorite, biscuits and gravy. Coastal Skillet features an extensive cocktail menu, from D8 cocktail creations to classic mimosas and bloody marys. They carry local beers and seltzers as well.
Coastal Skillet is veteran-owned and open Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays they are open for dinner from 4-8 p.m. The next time you’re searching for a cool Charleston spot to experience, try Coastal Skillet. Coach’s Canteen
Ever been to Pier 41, The Basement or Cloud 9 Kitchen? If so, then you are probably familiar with the Florie’s Dining Group. They have a new burger joint that’s all the rage. Also located in Point Hope Commons, Coach’s Canteen is reminiscent of those classic burger joints from the ‘50s and ‘60s. Brannon Florie has created a place to relax, hang out and have fun. The menu is simple but loaded with tasty eats.
Breakfast offers breakfast sandwiches like bacon, egg and cheese, the Taylor pork roll egg and cheese or a Monte Cristo. For lunch and dinner, they serve mouth-watering burgers. From their all-American burger to a chili burger, Coach’s Canteen has you covered. If you’re just not feeling a burger, there are other options as well. They have chicken tenders, nuggets, BLTs and hot dogs.
They support the local high schools in the area, so it’s a great spot to eat after school. If you are craving something sweet, then treat yourself to a nice soft serve ice cream, whether vanilla, chocolate or combo twist. Or indulge in a milkshake to help beat the heat and choose from flavors such as thin mint, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry or cookies and cream.
