Glenn Meadows, Chief of Police, Sullivan’s Island Police Department tells host Brian Cleary about their 4th annual Christmas Bike Drive to benefit Toys for Tots. In the Bike Drive’s first year, they set and exceeded their goal of 200 bikes. The drive continues to grow every year, and Chief Meadows sees it as more than just collecting gifts. It’s a chance to build stronger community ties.
This year’s drive began on Friday, November 1, 2024, and will run through Sunday, December 15, 2024. To donate a bike, have it shipped to, or drop it off at Sullivan’s Island Police Department.
- address for the PD is on the website sullivansisland.sc.gov/Departments/Police-Department
- donate a new bike in the box
- donate a new bike that’s already assembled
- Pro Tip! Chief Meadows suggests unassembled bikes with coaster brakes (the kind you pedal backwards to stop) instead of hand brakes (calipers) for easier assembly before sending them off to Toys for Tots.
And don’t forget the helmets! Host Brian Cleary reminds everyone that bike safety is key, which is why the Bike Drive also happily accepts donations of new bike helmets.
