Get Carried Away: Flocking to Georgetown

Posted by MPM Leave a Comment

Georgetown, the newest location of Get Carried Away.
For decades, Brian and Sassy Henry, their two children and extended family members have traveled to Pawleys Island. While constantly grocery shopping, cooking or cleaning up after the six little kids, the young parents rarely had the chance to relax and enjoy time at the beach. Still, the Henry family had fallen in love with the area and in 2022, they made a permanent move from Atlanta to Pawleys and bought the charming bed and breakfast, Sea View Inn.

Their concept of freeing up cooking time to better enjoy a day at the beach caught on quickly with vacationers as well as locals, and consequently word spread to Mount Pleasant and Charleston residents who took day trips up to Pawleys to purchase the prepped meals. That was in 2011, and since then the business has grown so much that last January, the Henrys expanded the business to an 8,000-square-foot space in Mount Pleasant that incorporates a restaurant called The Perch, alongside a full bar and retail space offering stylish hosting and entertaining merchandise such as cocktail napkins, to-go cups and seasonal accessories.

On Oct. 1, the Henrys opened the newest location in historic Georgetown, tucked behind bustling Front Street on Screven. With the opening of the sophisticated George Hotel and many local businesses from Charleston to Pawleys, expanding to Georgetown seemed like a natural progression, according to daughter Camille Henry, who said the space has been well-received. She added, “Since I started working with the Get Carried Away brand after I graduated in May 2023, it’s been incredible to see the heart and soul that goes into this business. Our close-knit family environment invites customers to feel a little slice of home from the time they come in to the time they leave.”

Across the board, the crowd favorite is the chicken salad, Camille said, dishing that another specialty available in all three locations is the chicken “perlo,” a traditional Southern chicken, smoked sausage and rice dish made sort of like a jambalaya but without the tomatoes and bell peppers, which is available hot when the sign is lit up in the front window. Additionally, the Screven-11 combo, which includes a prepared sandwich, bag of chips and a drink for $11, has become a popular lunch option specific to the Georgetown location.

“We have a lot to look forward to for the Georgetown space in the next year,” Camille said, describing an outdoor deck that will replicate the Perch with a made-to-order lunch menu and prepared party platters on offer.

Whether dining in or taking out, linger awhile at Get Carried Away because, after all, shouldn’t life be a beach? To learn more about Get Carried Away, visit getcarriedaway.com.
