Alex Brener is a real estate agent specializing in single-family luxury households. After graduating from Elon University’s Love School of Business in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he met his wife, Brener jumped into the world of real estate. During the 2008 recession, Brener helped build over 200 single-family homes and flipped homes throughout North Carolina.
Subsequently, Brener also purchased and scaled a retail franchise but found himself missing the familiar charm of Charleston and the more personal connections of real estate. Around the time his two kids were born, Brener moved back home to Charleston, got his real estate license and hasn’t looked back since. Soon, Brener hopes to dive back into construction and build some investment properties in addition to remaining a top agent in the Charleston market.
Since then, it’s been the ever-present balancing act of work and family life or what Brener likes to refer to as more of an “organized chaos,” as even the best-laid plans are doomed to fail. Parenting can feel like putting out fires left and right, and real estate can often be the same if he lets his guard down.
Because of that, the best thing a work-life balance can be is just the feeling of being grounded. Spending time together as a family always helps, but to keep everyone grounded in community, the Breners hold their faith close. Using a faith-based ideology helps stabilize constant chaos and establishes a community ready to aid and give advice whenever needed. These interpersonal relationships ensure that not only himself, but also his wife and children have a permanent way of engaging with people face-to-face, building those connections in the flesh.
Taking these steps, Brener can make sure his business is targeting each of his clients’ needs. Raising a family himself, he understands what defines a home. His clients are searching for more than just a roof over their heads, but instead a place for the family to create memories, feel safe and be an anchor for everyone residing within. People are more than the property they’re inhabiting, and Brener guarantees that each family will find the perfect house to make into their home.
Meeting people one-on-one and getting to know them on a personal level to find that home is far less stressful than retail. Real estate has become the ideal fit to build those interconnected, tailored relationships he was searching for, while still dedicating time to the beach or his family.
Charleston is a bustling municipality full of opportunities, but without the ability to remain anonymous. Neighbors, friends and families are all interconnected. Everyone experiences the same traffic, bridges and beaches, with every day molding them into the person Charleston needs them to be. The city has retained its character for so long, and it will continue to remain Charleston, the perfect place to build a house into a home.
