Megan Molten, founder and chief creative officer of Megan Molten Design + Shop, has always had a passion for interior design. When Molten purchased her first home, she started sharing the “modern coastal” spaces she was creating on social media as a hobby. Soon, that project demanded all of her time outside of her full-time corporate job in health care sales. She decided that it was time to quit her 12-year career and transform her project into a lifestyle business.
As excited as she was terrified to chase her dream, she sold her house along with everything in it. With no backup plan, she figured out her blueprint as she went, living in Airbnbs, crashing with friends and staying in guest rooms. “It was a weird, unsettling time,” she said. “All my friends were settling down, having kids and here I was, living out of a suitcase, trying to make this dream work. But as my dad told me, ‘Meg, you can always go get another job.’”
That would not be necessary. In 2018, Molten officially launched her business and she’s never looked back. Now Molten and her team of designers and client coordinators specialize in large-scale renovations and custom new builds. They handle every detail of the project from start to finish. The process begins with furniture layouts and design plans. Then the client receives an in-person design presentation, which includes a bespoke selection the team procures from a vast library of trade-only vendors. Next, a dedicated project manager handles all orders and logistics, while receiving each item for inspection at the company’s warehouse prior to delivery. On installation day, the team places each piece of furniture, installs art and light fixtures, styles shelves and fluffs the pillows before the big reveal. As Molten said, “It’s the ultimate HGTV experience for our clients.”
