For the last 25 years, Jose Cruz and Erik Hernandez have been more than just business partners — they have been lifelong friends. Their journey began on the soccer field, where their shared passion for the game laid the foundation for a deeper connection.
While Cruz honed his skills in the kitchen, Hernandez worked on the farm, but both shared a dream: to bring their own unique flavors to life. Pooling their savings, they took a leap of faith and launched Cachita’s Kitchen, a venture that has since gained widespread recognition.
Year after year, they are humbled to be nominated as one of the Best Food Trucks, a testament to their dedication and the love they pour into every dish. “It’s always surprising, but it makes us feel really proud,” Cruz and Hernandez said. “It reassures us that we’re doing something good and right.”
Now they are focused on taking the next big step — opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant. To prepare, they have partnered with a restaurant on the Isle of Palms, Papi’s Taqueria, gaining invaluable experience and knowledge. Their vision remains clear: to create a space that is not just another chain, but a unique, community-driven establishment.
Beyond their culinary endeavors, they give back in many ways, including their work with the Wando High School soccer team. No matter how far they go, their mission remains the same: to serve delicious food, stay true to their roots and be a positive force in the community.
“From the bottom of our hearts, we thank everyone who has supported us,” Cruz and Hernandez said.
