“Watching a timid child grow in confidence, skill and self-esteem is the most rewarding part of this business,” said Susan Breland, owner of Tapio School of Dance & Gymnastics. Since 1978, the studio has thrived under the direction of Susan and her husband, Steve, along with her dedicated staff and her children who help lead the business today.
Tapio offers a wide range of classes in dance, gymnastics, after-school programs and summer camps where children and teens of all ages are welcome to participate in recreational and competitive training. Plus, with demand at an all-time high, Tapio is excited to announce that construction has recently begun on a second studio expected to open within the next year.
For many students, Tapio is like a second home. Whether they start as beginners or seasoned competitors, they’re met with an atmosphere that fosters confidence and belonging. Parents also become part of the experience, gathering in the waiting area to cheer on their children, share stories and form friendships of their own.
The lessons at Tapio extend beyond the studio. Students experience setbacks, face challenges and learn perseverance. “You’re going to fall. The important part is getting back up,” said Susan, a lesson that applies far beyond dance or gymnastics. Each stumble helps them grow stronger, instilling confidence that lasts a lifetime.
As Tapio continues to grow, Susan remains focused on what matters most: creating a space where students feel encouraged, families feel welcome and everyone leaves more confident than when they walked in.
