With the humble start of selling paint out of a mini-storage unit more than 30 years ago, an Oklahoma native has grown Spectrum Paint Company into a thriving family business with 70 stores throughout the nation. Five of those stores are located in the Lowcountry, with two right here in Mount Pleasant. Gentry Stafford, vice president of marketing, has firsthand knowledge of the company’s origins. Her father, Travis Detter, started it in 1986.
“My dad had worked in the paint business and really enjoyed it. After his employer went out of business, he decided to start his own company,” Stafford explained.
The rest, as they say, is history. Spectrum Paint’s success in the Lowcountry is the result of local employees who have been working in the paint industry for years. They are proud to be one of the largest distributors in the nation for Benjamin Moore Paints and PPG Pittsburgh Paints. These companies are among the oldest and most respected names in the business and are leaders in today’s paint technology.
After opening their first Mount Pleasant store on Coleman Boulevard, Stafford said they began to see the need for a second location in North Mount Pleasant.
Consistent growth over the past three decades is a testament to Spectrum Paint’s commitment to be a leading supplier of architectural, commercial and industrial coatings. For 30 years, they have been providing professionals and homeowners with top-quality products, competitive prices and the best possible service. Spectrum Paint strives to offer the flexibility and response time of a small company yet provide customers with a broad product selection.
Spectrum Paint is located at 826-B Coleman Blvd. and 3365 S. Morgans Point Road. Visit www.SpectrumPaint.com or call 843-884-1838 or 843-970-2800 to learn more.
