Lynn Finkelstein’s love for gymnastics began in college when she was a gymnast at the University of South Carolina. Over the next 40 years, Finkelstein gained experience as a coach in artistic, rhythmic and boys’ gymnastics and a judge for both women’s and men’s gymnastics. She is a former Clemson University coach as well as a coach of state, regional and national champions.
In 2007, Finkelstein purchased GymMasters Gym Academy from its previous owners. The academy is housed in a 20,000-square-foot facility in Mount Pleasant and features quality equipment and in-ground foam cube pits.
“Our goal is to help each individual succeed in his or her personal and athletic pursuits,” Finkelstein said. “We want children to enjoy the gymnastics or cheerleading experience and at the same time learn and develop into healthy, well-rounded people. Gymnastics and cheerleading teach not only athletic skills, but also goal setting, achievement, teamwork and communication.”
GymMasters is a competitive training facility for boys and girls and ranges from Guppies classes, beginning at age 18 months, to an elite/TOPS advanced level, which is part of the National Team and the highest level of competition taken very seriously. For the past five years, Finkelstein has had an average of 15 state champions and eight regional qualifiers. Finkelstein and her team strive to provide a safe and fun environment for each gymnast that walks through their doors.
In addition to classes, GymMasters hosts birthday parties and Friday Fun Nights throughout each month. In the summer, gymnastics camps provide an opportunity for boys and girls to learn gymnastics and participate in other fun and challenging activities. The academy also offers special classes for students who are homeschooled.
GymMasters is located at 301 Ports Authority Drive in Mount Pleasant. For more information, visit gymmastersgymacademy.com or call 843-971-0685.
