If today’s music ain’t got the same soul, School of Rock might make you think there’s still time to change the road it’s on.
In operation for just over a year, the school has been recognized as the area’s best music school, training students from ages 6-18 in what rock ‘n’ roll is still all about.
“We have about 100 students in our program so far,” said Matt McFarland, owner and manager of franchise operations. “And we offer music camps, workshops and lessons of all types for all skill levels, for youth and adults.”
Lessons include drums, bass, keyboards, singing and guitar. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. All students are in a band, and McFarland said the group portion and “our patented teaching curriculum are what sets us apart.”
“Our most popular class is our Rock 101 groups (8-12) and our performance groups (8-18) where students take a private lesson and also do a weekly group rehearsal,” he said. “It is so cool to see the kids grow, in terms of personality and musically, and watch how confident they become on stage.”
