As the executive director of Children’s Discovery Center, Katie Carter considers it a privilege to oversee two Mount Pleasant schools. Carter explained, “Our Venning Road location opened in August 2013 with just 40 children, and I was fortunate to be part of the building process and the team that welcomed our very first families. Today, we serve more than 300 children across both campuses and are supported by an incredible group of dedicated educators.”
Carter expressed humble gratitude as she described her partnerships with families and staff. “One of the greatest joys of this work is seeing the long-term impact on our children. After completing pre-K, they head off to kindergarten, and we consistently hear from teachers and local schools how much they love receiving children from CDC. They often share that our students enter kindergarten above grade level, confident, willing to take risks and natural leaders in their classrooms. Knowing that the foundation we help build sets them up for success is incredibly rewarding.”
For Carter, winning Best Preschool, Best Child Day Care and being recognized as one of the Best Employers means the world. Carter continued, “I genuinely love each member of our team, and knowing that they feel fulfilled, appreciated and grateful to be part of this organization is incredibly reaffirming. Their support and dedication over the years speaks volumes about their commitment to our mission and to the children we serve.”
