On Jan. 1, co-owners of Yoga Daily, Blair Hahn and Tricia Hughey, celebrated the studioβs eighth anniversary and accepted the Best Of award for Best Yoga Studio.
Hahn and Hughey credit their team of dedicated and knowledgeable teachers who make sure everyone feels welcome while supporting the mission of the studio. Hahn, a certified yoga teacher, also praised his partner, Hughey, who has been teaching yoga for 25 years and has multiple advanced certifications. She is responsible for daily operations within the studio as well as for selecting and screening the studioβs family of teachers. βWe encourage our students to listen to their body and assure them that if something doesnβt feel right to back off, try another variation or opt out,β said Hughey. βItβs important to support and nurture our students by meeting them where they are and by reminding them to tailor the practice to how they are showing up.β
Hughey added that what sets Yoga Daily apart is their βflow stateβ approach to yoga class. βTo me, being voted the Best Of award is a validation that individuals are interested in a more mindful yoga practice than a mindless yoga workout. In recent years, it seems that yoga has become a fast-paced hot workout where students arenβt present. Our classes encourage students to be present in their bodies, observing sensations and awareness of the breath.β
For Hahn, the Best Of award means that the studio is doing what the partners set out to achieve, which is, quite simply, sharing an open, friendly and clean environment where people can enjoy and explore yoga and themselves. βOur commitment is to make the practice accessible for every unique body without dogma or judgement,β he said. βWe welcome everyone from the community into our studio and love that our Mount Pleasant friends and neighbors are open to learning and growing with us.β
Yoga Daily also stands out for their philosophy behind the studio, according to Hughey. βWe are a tradition-rooted, science-supported, multi-disciplinary yoga studio that offers classes for all health, ability and age levels,β she said. βYoga is an entire mind and body workout. Much more than just βstretching,β itβs a well-rounded practice that improves focus, strength, mobility, balance and coordination. You will increase parasympathetic activation and reduce the stress response. Yoga practice also improves mental health, cardiovascular health and reduces blood pressure.β
Hahn continued, βIβve found that yoga helps me to manage stress, it lowers my anxiety and helps to calm the βmonkeyβ mind. Less stress means that I sleep better, have lower blood pressure and it helps me to feel happier overall.β
For those who are new to the practice, Hughey suggested starting out with the Sweet and Low Down or Deep Stretch classes, while the beginner class is a good option for students wanting to move more swiftly. Seasoned yogis will enjoy the flow and Vinyasa-based classes. For the chill yogi, just looking to stretch, relax and completely βbliss out,β she recommended trying the Yin-style classes.
