The clinic’s journey is far from ordinary. Originally opened in 2015 as part of a national chain of men’s sexual health centers, the practice took a new direction when Dr. Markovitz – who had recently retired from a long and distinguished career in internal medicine at the renowned Palo Alto Medical Foundation – stepped in as medical director. Drawn back into medicine by a passion for patient care, he quickly realized the clinic’s corporate business model did not align with his values or the level of care he believed men deserved.
Determined to build something better, he purchased the clinic from the venture capital group and began transforming it into a physician-owned, patient-centered practice. His approach blends the best of traditional internal medicine with the emerging fields of integrative, functional and lifestyle medicine, focusing not only on treating disease, but on optimizing long-term health and quality of life.
Modern men often face declining energy, motivation, performance, mood changes, weight gain, sleep disturbances and a marked decrease in testosterone levels, yet these issues are commonly dismissed as “normal aging.” At Charleston Men’s Clinic, patients receive a deeper, more comprehensive evaluation.
